COVID and Return to Play
As you know, we had to shorten the season last year to respond to the COVID 19 crisis and restrictions placed on us by state and local authorities. We are starting the fall season of clinics and are working with the SCLA to start the regular Spring Season on time. As you know there are many other sports trying to play during the spring season as well, so we want you to know that we are looking forward to seeing you all playing lacrosse for the 2021 Spring Season. The SCLA is planning the spring season with the understanding that we all need to be flexible and be ready to modify our plans as the season approaches given the COVID 19 impact on our communities.
The SCLA is going to change it's age group structure and rules to align with US Lacrosse, our governing body of the sport. Many of the changes will help in the athletic and skills development as they progress through each player development stage in recreational lacrosse. The overall approach is smaller teams and smaller fields at the youngest ages and progressing upwards as they turn 12 years and older. It will give more players opportunities to play and receive more touches of the ball. You can read more about this here.
The SCLA be aligned with US Lacrosse and develop similar guidelines as discussed here by US Lacrosse. The SCLA will come out with their own guidelines that will also align with local parks and recreation departments in our communities.
